ISHN Webinars, Web Meetings and Virtual Drop-In "Office Hours"
The International School Health Network (ISHN) has been a pioneer in the use of webinars and web meeting technology to bring in speakers from distant countries while avoiding expensive travel costs. This occurred as early as 2005-06, with speakers speakers from England, Australia and the United States presenting at our conferences and workshops.
More recently, ISHN has been experimenting with different formats such as "web meetings" involving speakers acting more as discussants than participants and in the use of the web meeting technology to record interviews with specific resource people. The example below illustrates this innovation discussing teacher education and development. Please note as well that the web meeting is supported with the prepration and subsequent discussion of wiki-based summaries that will help to build the knowledge base surrounding the designated topics.
ISHN organizes its webinars using the World Encyclopedia on School Health, Safety, Equity, Social and Sustainable Development as its platform. The schedule of upcoming ISHN/partner webinars can be found on that web site as well as an archived list of previous webinars. Further, ISHN also maintains a list of recorded webinars presented by other organizations.
In the future, ISHN will experiment with the use of web-based "drop-in office hours" where designated experts and master practitioners will be available for questions using public and private instant-message "widgets" for questions to be posed during designated times/dates.
